Hello!
I am running KDE from Kubuntu PPA beta (Maverick) repositories, so version 4.6 beta2, and I am having trouble with generation of thumbnails in plasma. For example, when I place the mouse pointer over an app in task manager, no thumbnail is generated: Same thing happens when I use CTRL+TAB to get task list, or when I place my mouse pointer at top left corner of the screen to view all currently running apps - no thumbnail/preview. Any idea why this is happening? Is it because I have missed some program that needs to be installed? |

Unfortunately your image link is broken. Can you please repost it?
Which graphics card + driver do you have?

Is this working?
<a href="http://s388.photobucket.com/albums/oo329/cubancigar11/?action=view&current=snapshot1-3.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo329/cubancigar11/snapshot1-3.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> I have a ThinkPad T60p.
I don't think this is a problem with Graphics driver etc., since it all works fine with stock stable KDE 4.5 |

Unfortunately not...
If the thumbnail is just plain missing (not an empty space there), then try opening System Settings > Desktop Effects > All Effects. Make sure "Taskbar Thumbnails" is checked.

I too have this issue. When i move mouse over task bar then just for fraction of second thumbnail is visible there after it disappears. I am using Kde 4.6 on kubuntu 10.10.
I also had too many crashes when i enabled default kwin effects. It reduced drastically when i disabled many effects. Any help is appreciated. |

I have only one user account and that too auto login mode. Also Thumbnail is enabled. I will create new user account and post the result in the next post. |

I can see his screenshot. There is a space for the thumbnail but it's blank if that helps. |

This is likely a bug in either KWin or their graphics driver in this case.

Here is my output of lspci command. However i dont suspect video card as defaulter because the same distro with kde 4.5 worked flawlessly.

Your system has an ATi graphics card. Please ensure you are using the correct driver for your card, it is up to date, all KDE packages are up to date, and that the appropriate Desktop Effects are enabled.
Otherwise, there isn't anything further you can do unfortunately. Your card may require some xorg.conf parameters to work well under KDE, some googling should determine what these are.
