font antialiasing

Sun Jan 02, 2011 11:42 pm
I've set antialiasing in systemsetting (antialias -> enabled, use subpixels -> RGB, hinting style -> Slight).

The rendering in applications is fine but in plasma (desktop folder, kickoff) doesn't work properly (for me).

See the image attached below
Anyone with this issue?

According to Plasma developers, this is dependent upon your Qt version. However, given that it doesn't work for Kickoff also, this could be related to X also.

I've found the problem (I think).
The antialiasing work fine, the problem is that sub-pixel rendering don't work in some part of plasma (ex: folder view). I've disabled this one and the fonts in applications is the same of the desktop view.
But the problem is in only in some parts of plasma. For example, in kikoff the application fonts have this issue but the sarch text don't have this issue.

Thank's for the help

The Qt version is quite important, as the underlying technology behind the Plasma desktop (such as Folder View) and normal KDE applications is different. Unfortunately you will need to wait for improvements in Qt or X to be made, as KDE doesn't perform the font rendering itself.

Ok I hope in the future of this incredible technology.
