Hi all,
last night my kubuntu didn't boot properly and whole environment was reset (no kwallet, UI settings, themes). I investigated and found one bad sector (so far) which is used by this file: /var/tmp/kdecache-{username}/plasma_theme_Elegance.kcache Judging from the size of 80 megs it is somehow important . Now the only option for me is to move this sector which means the file will be ultimately lost. My question is how will this impact my KDE workspace/apps? Is there anything that I could do to help save it? (Now it looks terrible, plasma and kwin keep crashing). TIA, regards, Marek |

I'd just delete the whole directory - as it's in /var/tmp it means they're temporary files so I wouldn't worry as all files contained in it will be regenerated if and when needed
as a test i just deleted mine, no problems might want to run "kbuildsycoca --noincremental" w/o the qoutes also |

Hi,
I did that and the system returned to "stable" state. I lost everything from the second screen, panel, widgets, wallpaper. OpenGL desktop effects became slow so I switched to XRender. App settings and KWallet do seem healthy. (Those things are probably effects of system running in volatile state.) Regards, Marek |

don't know why you lost everything from the 2nd screen unless the second screen was just created and never got to be saved in the plasma rc file(s)
Also, know idea why openGL would now be slow, did you try rebooting? Is it slow running as a different user? |
