Hi
I have an AMD 4850 Onboard Graphic Card, on my ASUS motherboard. It supports 32MB to 1 GB RAM allocation for Graphic Processing out of my total 4 GB memory. How much graphic memory is required for KDE 4.6 for a smoother and pleasant performance( with oxygen transparent theme and Plasma Desktop Effects, particularly blur). Does allocating high RAM for graphic processing give any improved or smooth KDE performance? Where can I see a realtime graphic memory usage in KDE? (I used to check this in GPU-Z in Windows) |

You can use "xrestop" to monitor the level of graphics memory used by applications inside X. Note that this will not include OpenGL usage as far as I know.
Most onboard graphics cards will dynamically allocate the level of memory they need to operate, so I would not worry about this. I doubt KDE uses more than 64mb. (my system uses 39mb, with compositing enabled, and a number of applications running)
