i'm running kde 4.1.70 ("release 1.7") on opensuse 11.0 x86. on almost all plasmoids (like folderview & lcd weather station) if i make a change in it's config and click 'OK' plasma crashes.

i need to manually edit the config of the folderview plasmoid which i assume means i have to edit the plasma-appletsrc file. i have found the folderview's entry/entries, but i'm not sure what to change for what i want to do.

what i want to do is set the location displayed in the folderview plasmoid to a custom location. i'd also like to set it to "Align icons in a grid". the problem, as i mentioned, is that i don't know what to change in it's config entry/entries. here it is:

[Containments][137][Applets][141]
activity=
formfactor=0
geometry=8,43,600,400
immutability=1
location=0
plugin=folderview
screen=-1
zvalue=9

[Containments][137][Applets][141][Configuration]
activity=
formfactor=0
geometry=6,42,600,400
immutability=1
location=0
plugin=folderview
screen=-1
zvalue=11

any help?

At first i don't think you need the doubled entrys in both sections, all of them go into the first one. But for the location you need to add
Code: Select all
url=/

to the second section Configuration.

For the alignment part, i can't help, sry.

thanks for the response!

i wasn't 100% sure where you meant to put it. so i tried these three variations:

location=/path/to/folder/
location=url=/path/to/folder/
and i tried adding a new line with this:
url=/path/to/folder

unfortunately, none of those worked.:-S

which of these should i be using and do i need the around the path?

Sry to not mention it.
You need to it add it like this:
url=file://path/to/folder

So you need to add the ioslave you are using.
And no, isn't needed, they were or illustrations.

ok. thanks! i'll try it & report back.

also, for note, i upgraded to 4.1.71 "release 5.1" today but it didn't fix the plasma crashes.

UPDATE:
a note:
i think it is case sensitive & it should be "Url=file:///path/to/folder"

i added the entry above, logged out/logged in, but i got the "gray (plasma) screen of death". just a gray screen, no panel, wallpaper or widgets.

here is what the entries looked like before i removed them:

[Containments][137][Applets][165]
activity=
formfactor=0
geometry=5,73,600,400
immutability=1
location=0
plugin=folderview
screen=-1
zvalue=157

[Containments][137][Applets][165][Configuration]
Url=file:///media/disk/
activity=
formfactor=0
geometry=5,73,600,400
immutability=1
location=0
plugin=folderview
screen=-1
zvalue=157

ideas?

Your plasma configuration should never cause the "grey screen of death". Your upgrade was probably incomplete, leading to binary incompatibilities and things being rejected by the plasma application ( like all containments + applets )

i figured that much. of course the kde team wouldn't release a totally useless plasma, even if it is a testing version.

i just noticed in the configuration the screen switched from 0 to -1. could that possibly be the problem?
