I am running Kubuntu 11.04. KDE 4.6.2.

I have set up activities for different tasks. All works fine so long as I do not stop any activity.

When I stop an activity and restart it, there are four difficulties I have faced so far.

1. If the activity contains a Libre Office Impress document, when I stop and restart the activity, it opens Libre Office Writer. This does not help as now I need to open the document I was working on.

2. If the activity contains Rekonq, when I stop and restart it, it opens Rekonq, I thought it would open the specific web page I had opened.

3. If the activity contains Thunderbird, when I stop and restart the activity, the application does not start

4. If I log out and log back in, none of the activities have the applications running.

Now, is this a normal behaviour for activities or am I missing something in terms of set-up?

As I understand it, that functionality of activities is still in flux (at least somewhat). Ideally, plasma would freeze the whole state of the running applications when the activity is stopped (using kernel calls to suspend the processes to disk), and unfreeze them when it starts back up. At this point it is limited to just closing and re-launching the apps, which means that the apps start however they would normally start when started afresh (launching the default session if the application supports that). I'm not sure if there are any KDE apps (as of 4.6.2) which have been coded to be activity-aware, yet; that is launch a specific session associated with the current activity. We should be able to anticipate such features in future releases of KDE (4.7 or 4.8)

Thanks. So, its waiting some more for activities to be really useful :).

I will mark this topic as solved - at least for now.
