I have KDE 4.4.4 and I have two activities created. When I switch between activities, the taskbar does not change! All that changes is the wallpaper (i gave each a diff. wallpaper). I want each activity to only show the apps I opened in it on the taskbar. How do I do this?
Also, any open non-minimized apps stay that way when I switch activities. The only thing that changes is the wallpaper! This makes activities useless. |

i think what you want are virtual desktops. Use the pager to change them.
Activities have a different goal. |

Virtual desktops do the same thing: the taskbar shows all open apps regardless of which desktop they were opened on. |

As I recall, as of KDE 4.4 the ability to associate applications with activities had not yet been implemented. Essentially activities were virtual desktops for plasma/plasmoids (you could have different wallpaper and different plasmoids on each activity).
KDE 4.5 added the ability to associate applications with activities, but it wouldn't remember that setting if you close and relaunch the application. KDE 4.6 made it default that applications launched on a certain activity are associated with that activity.

Thanks! I was able to achieve almost the same effect by doing multiple desktops, then I right click on the taskbar (while in add widgets mode) and edited the task settings to show applications only in the desktop they're in. It worked! It's not 100% activities, but I think I can set each desktop to be associated with an activity. I'll try that next. |
