I'm distro and desktop environment shopping

I set up a few different distros on a virtual box
Ubuntu 10.10 host
I'm concentrating on Mageia which is a Mandriva fork
& have enlightment, xfce, gnome, ice weasel & Kde
each as it's own machine
Kde is set up in such a way that I can have organized workspaces

I'm having trouble figuring out how to make launchers on KDE
what I'm seeing doesn't match the documentation I'm finding
the goal is to make chromium the default browser & have a matching launcher

To make a launcher quickly, simply drag it's icon out of the menu and to the desktop. Not sure if you are used to your desktop displaying ~/Desktop though. That isn't the KDE 4 default, but it can be adjusted to do that.

Default applications are managed in System Settings.

I was confused on the Default, it seems to require the full name
Chromium Web Browser
