Widget-filewatcher and logrotate

Sat Jul 09, 2011 8:53 am
Hi. I use the filewatcher plasmoid to watch /var/log/syslog. It works fine by logrotate rotation the logfiles. Filewatcher switch to syslog.1. After relogin filewatcher use /var/log/syslog.

My System: Kubuntu 11.04 (Natty) with KDE 4.6.2

Best regards

This is probably because the filewatcher widget only opens the file once, and logrotate will move the file when rotating the log file. As a result, the filewatcher ends up watching the old rotated out log file.

This is a bug in the widget, which it can fix by watching the file using inotify and reopening the file when it moves.
