We are not in disagreement. I've been saying exactly the same thing, but with one difference: the Kickoff documents list is supposed to reflect the contents of the RecentDocuments folder, and it always has until now. This is a bug. The context menu in Kickoff can still clear the contents of that menu, but the display is broken. I know you were asking where Kickoff reads recent documents, and you have the answer. There is no other place where recent documents are recorded. Kickoff isn't reading them from somewhere else; kickoff is simply broken (along with a few other Plasma and Kwin items) since updating to Linux 3.0. I'm not saying that the new kernel is the root of the problem, but that is when my problems started. |

Thanks Pennyless. We are now on the same page. One final question. Has a bug report on this been filed? If you don't know I can check and report the bug # to end this thread.
You have been very patient. ciao, jdk |

I'm not sure if a bug report has been filed yet. If you have the time, it would be great if you could check.

I have filed a bug report on this topic. It is bug #281372 of the kde bug tracking system. If you wish you add your experiences to this report it may help the kde team in solving it.
thanks, Jonathan |

Problem Solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got an updated version of my kernel from the Liquorix people this morning: 3.0.0-4.dmz.2-liquorix-amd64. The symptoms disappeared. I can now clear the documents from the Recently Used tab of KickOff. Pennyless's analysis was correct or else I'm committing a post hoc ergo propter hoc error. |

It's too bad the kernel update hasn't made it into Arch core yet. I'd love to be able to confirm that it solves this problem. All I can say is that with my existing kernel, the latest update to KDE 4.7.1 didn't help at all. I should get the new kernel sometime in the next few days, and when I do I'll post my results here.
By the way, doesn't it seem freakin' weird that a kernel update would be able to break or fix a UI/usability issue, like clearing recent documents from the Kickoff menu? Strange man, very strange indeed. |
