A very basic, but somehow unanswered question

Isn't there some way to easily add something like a 'sub-menu' to the taskbar? In thre previous version of kde (and in gnome) one could add something called a 'drawer', which was a small applet that would open up to reveal a list of icons. Now, however, I can only add launchers for single programs, which means that I end up having a very crowded taskbar where I can't find what I am looking for.

Surely this can't have been left by the road side? And, to be honest, I am not interested at all in any over-cool substitute for this simply functionality, I just want the basic, very useful thing. Is it just that I am blind?

I have had a look at quicklaunch - I didn't like it. There doesn't seem to be any applet called shelf - I even tried looking at the downloadable ones. Where can I find it?

it should be part of the plasma-addons package (at least in my distro)

here's a look at it http://maketecheasier.com/easy-organiza ... 2010/11/10

I already have something called addons: plasma-widgets-addons (this is Debian 6.0), but there is nothing called "shelf". I have "Lancelot", which I find is very far from what I would use.

Which version of Plasma Desktop do you use? I'm not sure in which version "Shelf" was introduced.

Another solution could be to add a Folder View widget to the panel, point it to a specific folder, and put *.desktop files in that folder for the applications you want to launch, but it's maybe not the most elegant solution.
