Restrict Activity Bar size in panel

Wed Nov 16, 2011 5:25 am
Hi. First off I'd like to say how much I dig the Activities idea, big fan. It's great not having to have tons of applications litter up the task bar. But I have a problem!

I currently have 3 activities, and I just want to have a small widget in my main panel to switch between activities. The problem is the activity bar widget always swells to massive sizes and bunches up the task manager, as per the image below:

Of course, that activities bar doesn't need to be anywhere near that big, but I can't change it. I've tried adding a spacer that can force it into the right hand corner (the size here would be perfect:

But as soon as I try and pull the spacer in on the left hand side to try and reclaim the space, the stupid activity bar jumps into the space, bigger than ever:

This small but extremely annoying obstacle is keeping me from desktop heaven, any assistance would be most appreciated.

Running KDE 4.7.3 on Arch.

I don't use activities so my comments are suspect

have you tried the activities and the activities manager widgets?

what if you shrink the panel and shrink the activities bar widget and then place it to the side of the shrunken panel?

if you think this is a bug post on bugs.kde.org

Great idea, thanks. I just made a separate panel for the activity bar and moved the clock and sys tray on to it. Now it's not always fighting with the task manager for supremacy.

Thanks again.

Yeah this seems like a bug, hopefully it'll get fixed soon.

On a completely unrelated note: may I suggest oxygen-gtk (extra/oxygen-gtk in Arch) and/or Oxygen KDE? Your Firefox makes my eyes bleed. :P

Meanwhile, did any of you file a bug report about this ? I encounter this bug as well - worked around it by adding a 2nd panel, but I would definitely prefer to have everything in the same panel :-)

(kinda have some trouble searching through bugs.kde.org...)

It looks like it might be similar to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293945 but that may be referring to the Activity Manager which is different.
