hi ;=)
i have opensuse 12.1 and kde 4.7.3 , each boot i have a segmentation fault. Then it works fine. How can i solve this please ? Thanks Some other stuff i saw : my session was once closed suddenly , and another time i saw a message telling me session could not be opened, it became open but it took a longer time than usual. Qt: 4.7.4 KDE Development Platform: 4.7.3 (4.7.3) "release 10"

run ksystemlog (must be kdesu'ed) and search your kernel and system logs
I don't think the "other stuff" is relevant as KDE should not affect the boot process |

look for errors in the log files, that occur at the time of your segmentation fault

I don't see anything there either
some questions: - this was an upgrade, clean re-install or new install? - if upgrade, it did not happen previous? - where did you get 4.7.3? do you have the Extra and Playground repos also installed? I ask this because I don't see Extra for 4.7.3 - what does the fault error message exactly say? can you tell where in the boot process it occurs? |

hi,
i upgraded fron opensuse 11.4 to 12.1 using zypper dup from init 3 (runlevel 3) , only 3 repos (oss, non-oss and update of 12.1). Before 12.1 I had some bug of kde sometimes, plasma crashing, at shutdown, but not each boot i have kde 4.7 , upstream release : core, extra and playground repos, added after the upgrade. extra repo is not available yet it seems, there was an url that was not accepted by yast, and now they put the same url as kde 4.7 core. So i used the repo i had in 11.4 but changed the distro version number to 12.1 > zypper lr -d | grep kde 2 | kde47core | kde47core | Oui | Oui | 99 | rpm-md | http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_12.1/ | 3 | kde47extra | kde47extra | Oui | Oui | 99 | rpm-md | http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_12.1/ | 4 | kde47playground | kde47playground | Oui | Oui | 99 | rpm-md | http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_12.1/ | To upgrade kde i used yast and the repository view in order to migrate all system packages to these of the 3 kde 4.7 repos. At 1st i had some dependencies problems but keeping some packages old made upgrade possible. -> At each boot : after reaching the desktop i have an error message mentionning pid number so and so with segmentation fault. -> Once only : - session was closed, reentering it was ok, - another time i saw a msg mentionning the session was already open so it could not be opened, it settled a bit and then entered session as usual.

so then the seg fault is with kde? or it so it seems "at each boot : after reaching the desktop i have an error message mentionning pid number so and so with segmentation fault."
No idea but I really think mixing repos from diff OS releases is a very bad idea - you should either remove all packages from the Extra repo or change all your KDE repos to the standard which would be http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_12.1/, http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_12.1/ & http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_12.1/ |

i changed the repos for the one you gave and upgraded to :
Qt:4.7.4 KDE Development Platform: 4.7.2 (4.7.2) # zypper lr -d | grep kde 2 | kde-core | kde-core | Yes | Yes | 99 | rpm-md | http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_12.1/ | 3 | kde-extra | kde-extra | Yes | Yes | 99 | rpm-md | http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_12.1/ | 4 | kde-playground | kde-playground | Yes | Yes | 99 | rpm-md | http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_12.1/ | i still have the same error after reboot : kdeinit4 PID : xxx Signal : Segmentation fault (11)

Do you mean log in session as :
root + password ? is not renaming .kde4 going to make me loose all my data in thunderbird and firefox and kde ? Is there a better way to solve things out than starting from scratch each time a bug comes up ?
