I have recently installed OpenSUSE 12.1 and I decided that I'll give a try to Activities feature. Previously I've been only using Default Desktop. I really like Newspaper and Search and Launch Layouts and I am currently exploring their potential.
Anyway, I would like to make one or two small customisations. I am a keyboard person and I like to have everything under a shortcut. I set up my "Activate Dashboard" on Meta+D and Activate Search and Launch under Meta+S. Unfortunately whenever I restart KDE the second shortcut vanishes. Meta+D works but the shortcut for Search and Launch is set to None. Can you think of any workaround? Is there any file that keeps this setting? What causes the problem? I would be obliged for any hints and comments. KDE version is 4.7.2. |

If you try under a new user with a different shortcut combination does it stick? If not, it is likely being cleared programatically, likely to clear a pre-existing shortcut that was originally present with the Search and Launch containment.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, you're right. Under a different user and under a different shortcut the problem is still there. The definition doesn't "stick".
Is there any way to override it? Anyway I can define the shortcut on startup? |

Unfortunately I do not think there will be a way to override this. If you can locate the shortcut setting file in question, then it may be possible to simply replace it once KDE has started, but I do not know if the shortcuts daemon will reload the settings file (perhaps a D-Bus command could help here)

How do you set a keyboard shortcut to open a specific activity? I don't see such a customisation in the Activities Manager (I can only set the activity name and icon), or in System Settings > Shortcuts and Gestures > Global > Plasma Desktop Shell (or anywhere else)
Thanks, Joe KDE 4.7.3, Kubuntu 11.10
