I use KDE 4.7.4 on OpenSUSE 11.4 with fglrx (x86_64) and have set up my desktop to show the "Menu of Applications" (or whatever is its name in English) when I left click on it. But, dummy thing: it disappears when notifications pop out! (Amarok because I use system notifications for it, bluetooth, Network or any other one.... ) It is really annoying... and I suppose it can't be fixed within 4.7.4 but that it will need some new coding in the 4.8.x series.
