Greetings everyone,

After updating to KDE SC 4.8 today, I noticed that the Folder View plasmoid lacks a scrollbar when it is located on the panel. See the screenshot here: before, in 4.7, there was a scrollbar on the right of the list, while now there is no way to scroll the folder view, even using the mousewheel. Is this a bug specific to KDE 4.8, or maybe there's something wrong with my configuration (but I didn't change anything related to this plasmoid after updating)?

The issue is very easy to reproduce: just add a folder view widget to your panel, and modify its settings so that a folder containing a large number of files/subfolders is displayed. Then click on the plasmoid icon and try to scroll the list that appears.

The scrollbar works OK when the widget is positioned on the desktop. I tried re-adding the folder widget and positioning the panel horizontally, the result is the same.

Excuse me if the issue has been raised before: I couldn't find any references to it in the forums.

I can confirm this bug on KDE Trunk. It only occurs when you are using Panels located on the side of the screen rather than the top or bottom of the screen where it works correctly. I suspect the applet may not be handling this orientation correctly.

Please file a bug report at bugs,kde.org against Plasma - but please check first to ensure it has not already been reported.

Thank you for your reply! I have already filed a bug report at bugs.kde.org. You are right that the bug only appears when the panel is at the right or left side of the screen, I didn't notice it because I moved the existing panel instead of the new one (the bug persists if the orientation of an existing panel is changed from vertical to horizontal).

Well at least for me, the only position in wich the scrallbar is visible is the top....

This is a known bug, caused by the fact that folderview reimplements PopupApplet functionality. This duplication will go away soon after the planned refactoring.

At the moment I will commit a quick fix for this issue given the existing code, expect a commit today or tomorrow - a proper code review should be done.

Thank you very much! The number of the bug that I had reported was 292756, but it was later marked as duplicate of bug 292741, which is in turn a duplicate of 215884.
