Any ideas on keeping up multiple workspace configurations?

The scenario: I am setting up an Openbox desktop and would like to bring one or two plasmoids from my KDE workspace, without carrying panels and other unnecessary load... and also without disturbing the usual settings of my KDE sessions in ~/.kde . Do you have suggestions on how to do this in a way less messy than swapping sets of configuration files on logon? Here are a few things I would like to do, but haven't seen how until now:

  • Making plasma-desktop launch a specific activity on startup (there would be the problem of panels being shared by different activities);
  • Launching plasma-desktop with an alternate set of configuration files depending on command line arguments or environment variables;
  • Exploiting plasma-windowed so that it loads plasmoids on login using persistent configurations (that would be ideal as far as I can see).

Any ideas will be much appreciated!
