hello everyone!
i use opensuse 12.1, with kde 4.7. so...devices manager. when i insert a cd, dvd or flashdrive, i have the normal options, e.g "open with filemanager" "download photos with gwenview" etc...(in english, while my system is in a different language) I just figured out days ago, that it's possible to change the entries of the options. So i did, and re-wrote all the options, to make them be the same as my language system. I finished the session, restarted the computer and so on, but the options are still in english. I ask, if this is really possible to translate that. If yes, am i doing that right? Well, maybe anyone here uses kde in a different language and could tell me if this is a known issue or not...? (or hopefully a workaround?) (of course it doesn't bother me really, i am just curious because i edit the entries and they still the same) thanks in advance! |

The default actions which ship with KDE should definitely be translated - and should show as such in both the Action Editor and the Device Manager applet. If it does not show in either, then this might be caused by either a bug in KDE or openSUSE specific changes.
Can you check one of the *.desktop files in /usr/share/kde4/apps/solid/actions/ to see if they have entries like this?

most of them were with one line only: Name= bla bla bla. except the files related to k3b. they had a long list with the action in many different languages (and anyway the k3b options were the only in portuguese). i re-wrote the actions, and they are all in portuguese now. thanks for your help! (anyway, i wonder if this didn't work before because i had no root privileges, so was impossible to edit files that are located in the root directory?) and well, there was no password required, when i chose to edit the entries... |

The Action Editor uses a different method, based on a override system. I'm not sure if the Device Manager applet uses the same override system (which might be why changes do not always show up)
Please be aware that if you edited the system wide files, then the changes may be reversed by an update.

the "risk" i have is having the options in english again after an update, or there could be major problems? i think i can recover the actions files using a backup folder... a bit random question, but still related...about the Ark program, to extract files. when i open ark i can setup the language to portuguese, but the options with a right click (using dolphin) are still in english, for example "extract here"... I of course understand that every desktop environment will have some details in english, doesn't matter how good translated it is. Maybe i am missing some "-lang" pack? Should i install those found in YaST2, like: programname-lang? Or this does not change anything? I appreciate your help, thank you! |

There will no major problems - just the items in English again.
With regards to the options - the translation is likely not 100% complete - in that case you will get sections of the application in English. If you have installed the kde4 Portuguese language pack then you will have installed all available translations that KDE needs to show a translated interface. If you would like to help translate KDE into Portuguese I suggest contacting the translation team - http://l10n.kde.org/team-infos.php?teamcode=pt
