Hello,
I am a new KDE user and am extremely frustrated by what should be a simple task: creating a shortcut to a web page on the desktop. After doing the intuitive right-click of desktop and getting nowhere I searched the internet and found instructions to go to the FILE MANAGER, click DESKTOP in HOME and right-click and CREATE NEW then LINK TO LOCATION. That looked promising but didn't work as I can only see the shortcut in the FILE MANAGER since it never makes it to the desktop even after rebooting. Furthermore, when I look in the FILE MANAGER, HOME, DESKTOP, I don't see any of the icons that are on my desktop. Why the disconnect? I'm so confused. I am aware of the drag-and-drop method (go to the site then drag the icon from konquerer to desktop) but the link I have to create cannot be dragged and dropped. It is a custom login-link that I have to type in manually. How do I do this? I am using the latest KDE included with Fedora16. I don't know how to obtain exact version. Thanks in advance. |

Hi and welcome to KDE!
You can try to change to the Folder View desktop layout (right click on desktop -> Desktop Settings -> Layout: Folder View), drag the "icon" from Konqueror to the desktop and choose "Link Here". I wrote an article some time ago explaining icons in Plasma Desktop. It's a bit out-of-date, but the fundamentals are still the same; you can read it here: http://hanschen.org/2009/01/29/plasma-d ... in-kde-42/ It also answers your question "Why the disconnect?". Hope that helps.
