Hello,
I have KDE v4.7.4 running in Fedora 16. I am trying to create two firefox shortcuts on my desktop to two different pages I have to access for work. I have a unique login url for each so I have to enter the url manually into the command line. I can create the first one by searching for firefox, right-clicking, then ADD TO DESKTOP, then clicking the wrench and setting the COMMAND. However, when I create the second one, it is a copy of the first and not a new shortcut. Furthermore, when I rename the second one and change the COMMAND, it also changes the first one. So apparently, no matter how many shortcuts I create and what I name them, there is only the ability to have one across the board COMMAND. How do I get two unique firefox shortcuts on the plasma desktop? Thanks in advance. |

This is because the shortcut you are adding to the desktop is a link to the existing menu entry - rather than a copy.
To fix this, open Dolphin or Konqueror, then drag the Firefox entry from the menu to Dolphin/Konqueror, and select "Copy here". Then make the needed modifications. Repeat for any other entries you need. Finally, drag each one of those to the Desktop. You will need to leave the files in existance where they are currently. As such you might find it helpful to configure a Folder View showing a specified folder, instead of dragging the icons seperately to the Desktop.

Uh oh. I deleted the firefox icon off the desktop and now it is also gone out of START, APPLICATIONS, INTERNET. I can still find it with search, but it has the url I modified and doesn't open to blank. I can't modify it either from the menu. I tried "yum remove firefox" then "yum install firefox" and it still remembers the link. How do I start over?

Go to ~/.local/share/applications/ and look for something like MozillaFirefox.desktop - and delete that. Then run "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental"

Not a problem. I've marked the thread as solved now for future searchers.
