Hi all,

A very nice feature of MacOS X 10.5 is its successful combination of "Exposé" ("Present Windows" in KDE4) and "Spaces" ("Desktop Grid" in KDE4).

Both can be called separately, as in KDE4. In addition, when the shortcut of "Exposé" is activated while "Spaces" is already running (or vice versa), a new view appears, featuring a preview of all Desktops at the same time, all of them in "Present Windows of the current desktop" mode. An example is available in youtube here.

This is very convenient since it solves the "Present Windows of the current desktop" or "Present Windows of all desktops" dilemma. The latter is great, but often causes the "too-many-window-previews-at-the-same-time-on-my-screen" paralyzing symptom. The combination of "Present Windows" and "Desktop Grid" is more efficient for at least two reasons:

- first, the first called desktop effect is used as filter to narrow the search on the current desktop ("Present Windows" first), or on visible windows of all desktop ("Desktop Grid" first)

- second, if these filters fail, and you still need to look at all the windows of all the desktops, the windows thumbnails are organized the way your organize them on your desktops

I do not know who should be contacted for this idea to be implemented. Do you have an idea ? I also hope it is the right place for this post. Otherwise, let me know.

Aurelien.
