Getting Historical Stock Prices

Thu May 24, 2012 5:32 pm
I have been looking at moving from Quicken to KMyMoney. I find I can update the current prices of my stocks but I haven't figured out how to get historical data. In Quicken I could specify a month or year's worth of data. It is inconvenient to have to update every day after the markets close and a pain to look up and enter multiple days price data.

I am trying KMyMoney on both Windows and Fedora.

Am I missing a feature somewhere?

Thanks.

Can you obtain a text file with a history of prices? If so, you can reformat your data and insert it in the kmm file. It does take a bit of tinkering. You could write a shell script that does everything for you starting from the raw history data. If you're interested, I can help with the script.

Thank you zebulon. When I didn't see any immediate replies I started thinking about a way to do it. I think I can get a .csv file and work it from there.

I guess I was just hoping someone had already done it and would save me the trouble! :)

I will probably start playing with it in the near future and if (or when) I get stuck I will get back to you.

Thanks,
Dennis
