Hi,

I'm a new user to KMyMoney and have started populating it with data from my old bank statements and stuff. I thought I'd also use it to track online payment processor accounts as well, such as Paypal, Flattr, Amazon, etc.

I got stuck trying to add a transaction from my PayPal account to my Flattr account. Flattr takes an additional fee from each PayPal transaction to cover PayPal's own fee. As such, the monetary transfer is not 1-to-1; PayPal sees a debit of n dollars, Flattr converts that to m euros, Flattr keeps f euros, and my Flattr account gets m - f dollars as credit. The problem is that Flattr always converts all money to euros, whereas PayPal uses dollars. As such, my PayPal account has dollars as currency, but my Flattr account has euros. The trouble is that when pressing the "Split" button, as I would do for a transaction with fees (is this the right thing to do?), it opens the currency conversion dialog, not the transaction splitting dialog. Ideally I should be able to specify both the exchange rate and the transaction fee, but it won't let me since it only shows the currency conversion dialog.

How should I model this transaction?

Have you tried entering the split before assigning a category? If the Category field is blank, you can enter the splits.

Hm, that's an interesting use case I have never thought of. This would get tricky in a transaction with 4 accounts/categories involved each denominated to a different currency. Don't know if that will work at all. Using two currencies might work, simply give a try to what zebulon has posted before.

It's great! When entering the splits, adding a row opens the currency conversion dialog when the target account uses a different currency. It's not very intuitive or discoverable, but this solves the problem. Thanks! :)
