Hi,
I'd like to know if there is a feature in KMyMoney that can work for the following use case: Say I have something that accepts donations from generous people. To make it easy for them, multiple ways of paying are supported, such as PayPal, Dwolla, wire transfer, etc. Some of those payment methods (such as PayPal) have a transaction fee when transferring money from their account to a real bank account or something. As such, it is generally better to let the money sit there and accumulate until it is really needed, so that the fee on the money transfer is minimal. This means that there's now multiple accounts which have a portion of their money that originated from donations; but all of those donations were made for the same purpose: towards helping the same project. What I'm looking for is a way to track such a thing; to somehow "tag" that money as being "towards [project name here]". Is the solution to create a new sub-account for every account that receives donations, and then make transfers from the main account to the sub-account? Is it to make the donation go to the sub-account directly? Is there a way to show reports for a set of such sub-accounts, so that you can see things like "how much money has been donated in total", "are donations increasing or decreasing", etc.? Thanks in advance! |

Tagging/classes would be the feature that helps you tracking that. So far we don't have it. There is a wishlist entry though, but so far none of the developers has found the time to implement it. Until then you can try to write the project name into the memo field and setup a report that has a filter based on the text. Another method would be to create an income category for each project and assign it to those payments. YMMV.
