I am using Kmymoney version 4.6.1 on Ubuntu 12.04.

I have been trying to delete an investment account. I attempted to delete all the Ledger entries, as this ppears to be required before I can delete the account. The problem I have is that a number of the entries have lost the 'Delete' option (it is greyed out) and I cannot find a way to remove them, thus I cannot remove the Account. Has anyone come across the problem and if so can they provide me with a suitable remedy?

Are any of the other accounts closed?

Why do you want to delete the account instead of closing it?

Hei Ku thank you for your prompt reply.

I wished to completely remove the account and it's contents because there are/were some errors which had crept in over the years. I decided to re-establish a fresh account but with just the current investments (for 2012), and no historical ones. I must confess that I did not use 'Close Account' because I wished to expunge it completely. As it is I am left with about 100 Ledger entries dating back to 2007 which I cannot remove and thus I cannot remove the equities list.

I hope this helps.

Are any of the transactions you cannot delete, related to closed accounts? That's the one reason I can think of that would prevent you from deleting a transaction

No the account had not been closed. I had gone through removing Ledger entries, and at some point I saved inorder to resume at another time (boredom had set in). When I came back I thought to speed up the removal and selected all the remaining entries in a single block using Shift/Click combination. I then attempted to delete them, some deleted but I was left with a residue that did not and I found that these entries entries had lost their 'Delete' status. So I was stuck.
Incidentally if I were to close an account does the balance disappear from the ' Total Assets' ?

I'm not talking about this account you are trying to delete. The transactions you are trying to delete may involve other accounts too, If those other accounts are closed you won't be able to delete the transactions.

To close an account, its balance has to be zero (0).

As far as I know there is no other account associated with it, however I have been using KMyMoney for many years and have tranferred files from one system to another. I suppose historically there maybe some account connection which I have forgotten about. At the age of 72 the memory is not always reliable :'( At the time, however, I had no 'close accounts' on the system.

My guess is that you have dependencies into accounts that are closed. Reopen all your closed accounts first, and try again deleting everything. For instance, an operation of buying shares of company XYZ will not delete if the XYZ investment has been closed. First, change the settings to display all closed accounts; then reopen closed accounts one by one. I'm sure you'll quickly recognize which ones are causing the problem.

Where do I find the button to display closed accounts ?
I closed a brokerage account and am trying to close its parent and the option is greyed out.
The balance is zero, though the last transaction does reference a transfer out to another brokerage account.

thanks

This is what I had to do.
Under general settings:
Show Equity Accounts

For the Account in question that I am trying to close:
There is a + which when clicked, shows the equity that had been sold. I could close the equity.

Then the parent account could be closed.
