Hi,
Here's the situation: Someone (let's call him/her Dan and let's assume it's a guy), who is a good and trusted friend of mine, travelled for a few months into my country of residence, which does not share the same currency as Dan's native country where he lives (Euros). Dan and I share a common employer which we can call IncCorp or whatever. IncCorp needs to give Dan a paycheck of X dollars. Usually that would be converted to Euros and Dan would receive it in his bank account. However, since Dan was in this country that used dollars at the moment, Dan asked IncCopr if his paycheck's money could be given to my bank account instead of his (it's a small company, where we don't really strictly follow policies to the letter etc. But that's besides the point here). My bank is based in my country of residence, so it uses dollars as well. Then, I gave Dan my bank account's card (I don't use it much anyway, and I trust him not to overspend with it or lose it or have it stolen, so I don't mind him having it all day long) and he spent money from my account, but that money was effectively from his paycheck. Then, once his trip was over, he went back to his country, and I transfered what was left of his paycheck to his bank account, converting it to euros. My problem now is this: How do I model all of this in KMyMoney? I like my bank account looking like my statement does, but now those expenses that he made aren't really mine and would screw around with my reports if I put them in the same category as I would if I was the one who made these expenses. What's the best way to model this? Thanks in advance! |

You could simply delete all traces from Dan's activity. Every single transaction made by or for Dan. Or you could create a separate Dan-account, move all Dan's stuff there and close it. If you really need your account to look like your printed statement, you need to assign duplicate categories and assign those to all transactions (e.g. Dan:Groceries, Dan:Utilities:Phone) and exclude them from reports.
