just started using kmymoney and an trying to do a reconcile of my checking account after the first month of use. upon starting up reconcile, i get to the screen with the starting balance and it is zero. the field is also greyed out so it is not possible for me to enter a starting balance. i entered the ending balance of the previous months statement as my starting balance when i created the account. any help...ideas...comments...fixes?

Check the ledger of the account you try to reconcile. Does it have an opening balance transaction? In case it has - and it better does since you write
i entered the ending balance of the previous months statement as my starting balance when i created the account.
which causes the creation of said opening balance transaction - it seems from here that this transaction is in the state of 'not reconciled' or 'cleared'. If that is the case, please continue with the starting balance of 0 which is OK as the opening balance transaction will be part of your reconciliation process. Just make sure the ending balance matches.

Another way would be to manually set the opening balance transaction to the state reconciled (use the transaction menu or the context menu to do so) but I would still recommend the above mentioned method over this one.

The manual contains some information about the process in general. Check http://kmymoney.org/kde4/online-manual/ ... ncile.html for that.

Hope that makes sense.
