Hi All,
My wife recently told me that she had a small amount of stocks sitting around from her childhood (gift from grandfather). I tried entering them but it keeps wanting me to put in a bank account, which I don't want to because then it takes money out of the account and thinks I'm making the investment today. I just want to put in the stocks and update occasionally so we know if/when we ever need to sell them.

Thanks all

Here's how I would do it: turn on the "Show equity accounts" option on Settings/General/Filter. Then create a new investment buy transaction and use "Equity/Opening balances" as the required account. This way, your book remains balanced. After you have entered the transaction, feel free to disable the above option. Using the 'Add shares' activity imbalances your book.
