Brokerage account creation

Thu Oct 25, 2012 12:13 pm
I mistakenly created an investment account and did not check the box to create a corresponding brokerage account.
Can I do this after the fact or will I need to create a "transfer" account, move everything over to it, delete the old account and recreate it with a brokerage account, and move everything back ?
I am hoping that there is an easier way.

Thanks for a terrific product btw.

Re: Brokerage account creation  Topic is solved

That should be simple:

Create a checking account with the same name and fixed suffix added (see below)

The fixed suffix depends on your translation. In case you are unsure, create an investment account with a brokerage account and see how it is created by KMyMoney. Then get rid of that account again.

The default w/o translation is as follows (I use code here so that we see all details):
Code: Select all
I assume you have an account named

  "Account"

then the corresponding brokerage account must be named

  "Account (Brokerage)".

That is the name of the investment account, followed by a blank, an opening paren, the fixed text Brokerage and a closing paren.

Hope that helps

It helps a lot. Thanks IP.
And something must be wrong, because that's too easy. ;D

HI GCash,
Did that easy fix work for you? Somehow I have lost the (Brokerage) account. The transactions in the investment account seem to think that the cash account is available, but it is not visible in the account list. If I create the fake account by adding (Brokerage) it appears in the list, but the base account does not communicate with it. For example. if I sell a stock or pay a dividend, the cash does not appear in that newly created (Brokerage) account. Any ideas? A

I also have had no luck with that method in the past. I have done exactly what ipwizard suggested and also fail go have the cash account linked to the investment account.

When I go to add a dividend or other activity to an investment, the cash account is never automatically assigned and I have to manually select it.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that the reason I couldn't add a brokerage/cash account was that I already had one that was hidden. My bad. :-)
