There are limits, that over these it's better to split the Account?
Which database engine you use? And it's reachable trough SQL?

The most common data engine right now is an xml file. There is a database engine but it is in testing, and not available for general use (a special setting must be manually changed to enable it).
There is no limit on the number of transactions, but what you can do is filter the transactions so that you will only see those after a certain date.
