Import QIF and match OFX

Tue Apr 01, 2014 6:34 pm
Hello,
I use "My expenses" on Android to grab my tickets for KMyMoney because is not exported under this system.
Then I import a QIF from Android to KMyMoney.
The problem is that when I import the OFX from my bank, it does not want to "match" because it is 2 imported transactions!
Do you have a solution?
thank you

This is the answer from one of the developers of import plugins, to the email you sent to the mailing list. Did you receive this email?

This is not a bug but by design. However, I've wondered about this myself several times, as I don't know the rationale for the decision. I suspect that originally, its expected use was to match a manually imported transaction with one later imported from a bank statement.

Hello,
Yes I received it. He told me it's not a bug and as me, he wondered why there is such a restriction for the imports.
That's why i post my question here. I thought the other post was not on the right place.

An OFX record has a transaction number that makes each transaction unique. You can buy the same item in the same store twice on the same day, and they will not be merged. QIF does not have this feature, and would find a (false) match. You would break the superior OFX system If you'd let QIF decide whether an OFX transaction matches. I could be wrong, but my guess is, that is why developers did not implement mixed matching. Maybe it would match if you imported QIF from your bank. If your bank does not offer QIF format, I think you could implement an import filter in KMM to transform the OFX into QIF.

I cannot see the difference bettween
-matching manuel transaction with an OFX import from my bank
-matching a qif import transaction from my android device with an OFX import from my bank.
Both of them are mathing a "non unique" transaction with a "unique" transaction.
Isn't it right?

Here is what I found:

- KMM will match an import (OFX or QIF) with an existing manually entered transaction
- KMM will not match a QIF import with an existing OFX import or vice versa.

I downloaded a single transaction from my bank in both QIF and OFX format. I imported both files, and KMM did not match them. I manually added the same transaction again. I then unzipped the KMM database and looked up these three transactions. The manually entered transaction does not have the html code identifying the transaction as imported, but the only other difference is this:
Code: Select all
bankid="2014-04-05-c0aee60-1"
bankid="ID XXXXXXXX1201404050000001"
bankid=""

So, it looks like KMM assigned its own bankid to the QIF import, and that KMM will only match an operation if the bankid is identical or if the existing bankid is empty.
