Hello everyone.
I'm a new user of Kmymoney and up until now i'm very pleased with what I'm seeing, but have been having some difficulties with managing different currencies. First of all my currency does not appear on the list on the initial setup wizard. This shouldn't be a problem, if once I finished the wizard, could then create the new currency and change it to be the base currency. But that it's not the case. The new currency is created, I change it to be the new base currency, but then the asset and liability accounts remain with the original (the first) base currency selected. And then in Accounts I see a Total Balance in the original currency and Total Value in the new currency.

I believe this is a bug, which people will rarely come across, because if they choose the right currency from the start there shouldn't be a problem.

So is there anyway I can add a new currency so I can use on the initial setup wizard? Or how can I change it afterwards, without having remains of the first base currency. Hope its all clear.

Cheers,

Hi,

You are right the scenario you described is a problem, please open a bug report so we can fix it. Until this is fixed here's a workaround for you:
  • Create a new file with any currency selected as base (let's say USD)
  • Create the new currency
  • Save the file as an XML file
  • Open the file with a text editor
  • Replace all occurrences of currency="USD" with currency="MYC" where MYC is the ID of the new currency
  • Open the file with KMyMoney again and it should be ready to be used

BTW: could you also open a report for the missing currency?

Thanks
