Express Web Connect

Wed Dec 10, 2014 6:06 am
After trying to make Direct Connect work for my bank Ent FCU in both GC and KMM. I have learned that my bank no longer supports it.

So what info do we have on using EWC?

I don't see support listed but I was wondering if we have any info at all on it. Or better code that just needs some love.

OK. So there does not seem to be a lot of info on the net.

Here is what Quicken say about it from https://quicken.intuit.com/support/help/bank-download-issues/how-quicken-connects-to-your-bank/GEN83013.html
  • Express Web Connect is a one-way connection. Data is imported into Quicken, but Quicken cannot affect your transactions or balances in any way.
  • Access and retrieval of data is automated through the use of scripts and nightly aggregation. During aggregation, Quicken logs in to your online banking web site on your behalf. Generally this happens once a day and outside of business hours. Because of this, you may notice login activity on your online banking web site overnight.
  • Your login credentials are stored on Intuit-hosted servers. This makes updates faster for you.
  • Your financial data is stored on Intuit-hosted servers. This provides a more complete history of your financial transactions than is typical for data stored on financial institution servers.
  • We use state-of-the-art security measures to protect your login credentials and your financial data.

This is a little confusing. Is the data imported into the app or is your personel data is stored in quicken servers and you download the info from them.

If the second option then the path of data is rather convoluted. You into put in your credentals. Which are then sent to quicken. Who then sends it to your bank and logs in. Quicken then sends a request for your bank for you account transactions. Then we do everything in reverse. It leaves interesting question how quicken verifies that the program they are talking is your. Does not matter IF This is how EWC actually works then we have little chance of making it work.

If quicken servers are centeral to EWC working then it is not an option. I am thinking about other ways to get the info automatically by using the banks built in Web Connect. It might be as easy as logging into the bank and downloading with the correct address.
