I'm looking to convert from using MS Money 2007 I've also started looking into using Linux and have setup a PC with Linux Mint 17.1 KDE. I've tried a few other Linux products but the imports were at all useful. Scrooge rejected the MS Money QIF's, another imported 24 out of thousands of transactions. 3rd time lucky, well close.
First attempt at importing 14 accounts resulted in numerous duplicated accounts and I thought these might be due to the MS Money account names being greater than 15 characters. So I renamed them with shorter account names exported them as strict QIF's from MS Money and then imported them. The results were that 12 accounts matched. However 3 didn't and a new 15th account was created (identical name but an asset account as opposed to the same named liability (credit card account). What I think has happened is that two of the mismatching accounts, used to pay off the credit card via transfers have for some reason both correctly transferred the amounts to the liability account but have also duplicated the transfer to the newly created same named but asset account (actually there was a third account that had 1 transaction duplicated that I corrected by deleting after comparing transactions). So what I have at the moment is:- in MS Money: SCU-MJT with a current balance of $466.73 SCU-TT with a current balance of $9354.16 WP-ICC with a current liability of $2509.06 in KMyMoney (4.6.4): SCU-MJT with a current balance of $(7938.23) SCU-TT with a current balance of $(181337.86) WP-ICC (liability) with a current liability of $(2509.06) (ie it matches) WP-ICC (asset) with a current balance of $199096.98 Ignoring the 2 matched WP-ICC accounts, (one in each product both having a current liability of $2509.06) The new WP-ICC account of $199096.98 is the sum of the other accounts ie $181337.86 + $7938.23 + $9354.16 + $466.73 I've read the documentation which does indicate the pitfalls with QIF's (one of the reasons to get away from MS Money) but I have little idea of what would need to be changed to correctly filter or convert the data. As I see it I probably have to go through 10 years of transactions and remove the duplicates (120+ transactions). My questions is, is this the best/only remedy? Or perhaps I've just missed something or done something wrong. eg Perhaps I need to get a later version of KMyMoney? Perhaps I just don't understand double entry and these results are correct (I hope not ![]() I haven't accepted transactions or done a consistency check, perhaps I should just cancel the transactions in the WP-ICC (asset) account? Update. I decided to take the plunge and went into the duplicated/erroneously created WP-ICC account and deleted all transactions. This resolved the issue close enough for me to proceed with trialling KMyMoney. |
