I have a managed fund with name [name]
[name] has several stocks/shares already existing prior to using kmymoney [name] [stock1] 1000 @ 1.2 value..... [stock2] 2000 @ 3.0 value..... [stock3] 1500 @ 1.1 value..... Current total value =......... I cannot understand how to enter the data as I seem only able to buy from an account which I have entered such as current or savings. The purchases were made years ago, not currently. I previously used microsoft money and was able to manually enter the start number of stock/shares and todays price. Following that I could enter a new price per stock/share to be able to record ups and downs. Can I do this in kmymoney? If so how? |

1. Create an investment account
2. Open a new transaction 3. Type your stock name in the security box - you will be prompted to create the stock adding details such as symbol. 4. From the transaction details drop-down select add shares and enter the quantity. 5. Update the stock price from either the investment view or the tools menu. 6. Repeat for each stock. That will do what you are asking for if I have understood you correctly. Regards, Martin

1. Created an investment account - Stocks & Shares ISA
2. Opened a new transaction - My stock at new place 3. Typed stock name in the security box and added details 4. From the transaction details drop-down selected add stock and entered the quantity. 5. Opened posting.php?mode=edit&f=69&t=128116&p=341224#a new transaction - My stock at another place but unable to have this transaction saved as child of main Stocks & Shares ISA When I edit the first transaction which is in the ledger for the Stocks & Shares ISA I see: Activity: Buy stock Security: My stock at new place Account: Opening balances I cannot then choose 'Opening balances' or 'Stocks and Shares ISA' for the second and presumable the third or following new transactions. The 'Stocks and Shares ISA' is listed in 'Accounts' as an 'Asset' but it does not appear as a choice for a new transaction. That is the problem I started with. I would be satisfied if each stock/share was a separate item/account rather than under one umbrella account, but have not tried this yet. If you can only buy from a Checking/Savings Account, it means you have no Brokerage Account attached to your Investment Account. If you get dividends, or your fund manager buys and sells with a cash reserve, you should probably use a Brokerage Account. You can add one to an existing Investment Account by selecting the same name, adding " (Brokerage)" to it. That is, a space and the word Brokerage in parentheses. All cash transactions will then be managed through the Brokerage Account.
With "Add Shares," your Investment Performance and Capital Gains reports will be wrong. Instead of using "Add Shares" to create existing investments, you can also start the Brokerage Account with an initial balance (which will then show up as Equity), and enter the true transaction with the correct date and price, if you still have that info. Make sure the creation date of the related accounts equals or precedes the first stock transaction. |
