I have been a user of Microsoft Money since 2003 and was previously a Quicken user. I have over a decade of financial history in MS Money. My favorite feature of MS Money is the Cash Flow Forecast. It took into account scheduled bills and deposits as well as budgeted items. My understanding is that Quicken still does not support this feature in the same way. It only takes into account scheduled bills and deposits but not budgeted items (like groceries, auto gas, dining out, entertainment, etc.) My question is, "How does KMyMoney handle forecasting?" Is it like Quicken or MS Money?
Since MS Money is a dead product and there are problems running it in Windows 10, I am starting to look for an alternative before it's too late. I have been very successful managing my finances in MS Money so leaving it for an alternative is a bit scary. I've looked at GnuCash and Quicken and I don't think they are right for me. Thank you in advance for your time and input. ...Sean |

Sean, I'll defer your first question to others on the board who are familiar with the "Cash Flow Forecast" aspect of KMyMoney. What will comment on is MSMoney and Quicken. I'm a former MSMoney and Quicken user myself. I started using Quicken a number of years ago, 18 or so, before moving to MSMoney a few years later. My move to MSMoney was necessitated by Quickens inability to properly manage investment accounts. I loved MSMoney and continued its use for a number of years until I was forced to find an alternative as it stopped working with my financial institutions downloads. At that time, three or four years back, the only commercial alternative I could find was Quicken. Unfortunately I didn't have time to research other solutions so I took the dive and purchased it. Right from the beginning I wasn't satisfied with the applications performance. In comparison to MSMoney, transaction times were much slower and in later years seemed to come to a grinding halt. As time went on I found entering transactions, updating records and searching transactions to be almost painful. I did touch base with Intuit regarding the applications performance. They told me that's the way the application worked and that all finical packages performed in a similar manner. Right! That's when I started looking for alternatives. I've been an KMyMoney user for almost a year. With exception of a very few minor issues I am very, very satisfied with the application. As a happy user of KMyMoney I encourage you to download the application, import your MSMoney data and try the application out. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. |
