Hi guys,
I'm new to KDE and just installed KMyMoney and wanted to see how it works. I realized that when I entered a few stock transactions on the same day, purchasing the same stocks. The records in KMyMoney will not show in the same order. e.g entered the stocks manual 1) 11/27 12pm bought DIS 20@117 2) 11/27 1pm bought DIS 21@118 3) 11/27 2pm bought DIS 22@119 after entering, I view the ledger the transaction now show 2) 11/27 1pm bought DIS 21@118 1) 11/27 12pm bought DIS 20@117 3) 11/27 2pm bought DIS 22@119 Is there some way to manual adjust the order of the stock transactions. I thought about changing the date but then it will not reflect the correct records. Another issue i have found with KMyMoney after recording the 3 transactions I go to Investment Column and select Equities the stocks for DIS the stock price has not been adjusted or does it reflect the actual cost. For some reason the total value and numbers of shares are correctly calculated but for the Price it shows the first price of the stock purchased and not the average of all three transactions. Does anyone has the same problem or knows a workaround Forgot to mention: KMyMoney Version 4.7.2 Using KDE Development Platform 4.12.5 |

Have two more questions:
1) Where does Kmymoney records the profit/loss when there is a difference between selling and buying? I was trying to it under the - report investment transactions couldn't find it. 2) Since I was playing the buying transactions I noticed the price that it used for the report are the same, no difference between buying and selling price. It just uses the price from the most recent update https://www.dropbox.com/s/ypu3qi34s2mpgmn/reporting.png?dl=0 3) Can I select how Kmymoney records its profit and losses (When I buy two stocks at a different time and different price, can I choose which lot it will calculate the profit/loss) |

- KMyMoney time stamps only track the date; not the time of day. Transactions occurring on the same date are sorted according to some criterion other than time. Since a stock price fluctuates rather arbitrarily during the day, the exact time of a transaction probably is not relevant in general and its only use is to determine the cost of an investment.
- There are several ways to compute capital gains (FIFO, specific-shares, weighted purchase price). For tax purposes, some countries offer a choice, others don't. It would be nice if KMyMoney could at least offer FIFO (common in the US) and weighted purchase (mandatory in France, e.g.). - I think you misinterpret the Investment Transactions report you uploaded. The actual cost of the shares is listed correctly ($660), and the fees are broken out separately ($10). The Total AAPL line is not the capital gain, but the value of the remaining shares at the end of the reporting period. Since you sold everything, it is indeed zero. I agree the price of $150 is rather arbitrary, though not wrong per se, as it is only used to compute the rest value. BTW, the profit is not 5x150 - 5x130 = 100, but 740 - 660 = 80. In short, this report gives you all information you need to apply the capital gains method of your choice, but stops short of applying a method itself. |
