Is there a batch utility to put transactions in categories?

I'm using KMyMoney 4.6.6 under Ubuntu 16.04. I used QFX import to pull in a few years worth of checking, savings and credit card transactions. It's pretty tedious going back and categorizing transactions. Is there a utility that could look at all my transactions to a specific vendor (say Publix or Krogers) and pop them into Food:Groceries category? And all my transactions to Subway, ChickFilA, Dairy Queen and pop them into Food:Takeout? I have a LOT of transactions to the same few places, and going back over several years of imported data to put them in categories would be pretty time intensive. I'd prefer to batch them if I could (new entries are going in the right categories, it's just going back over history that is time-intensive).

I am not sure if the following will work already with KMyMoney 4.6.6 but it certainly does under newer versions (4.7.2 and 4.8.0). So your mileage may vary.
  • Use the filter on the top of the ledger view. Enter your payee. This will leave the transactions matching your entry in any field of the transaction.
  • Use Ctrl+A (or Ctrl+Home followed by Ctrl+Shift+End) to select those transactions.
  • Right click the mouse and select 'Edit'.
  • Modify only the category and press the Enter button.
Voilà. Repeat this process for other payees.

Hope that helps.
