Hello. I've just seen that a couple of months ago v4.8.0 was released. I've seen in another post a link to download the Windows installer, but even though my original exposure to KMM years ago was when i still used Windows, for the past few years i use Linux [Mint x64 17.3 KDE 4.14]. For a couple of years now i've had the Claydoh PPA deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/claydoh/kmymoney2-kde4/ubuntu trusty main in my sources, but so far no KMM update for 4.8.0 has come to me via Mint's Update Manager.
It looks like i can download a tarball from here, http://download.kde.org/stable/kmymoney ... mirrorlist, & i like that the hashsums are also posted there. However i'm not comfortable to proceed this way, given that site is not secure [ie, not https]. Do i have any viable options to get 4.8.0 that don't compromise my security pls? Eg, is there an alternative https site? Will 4.8.0 make it into the PPA anytime soon? Thanks. |

Well, you are comparing apples and oranges here: the PPA gives you an installable program that runs out of the box, the given http Link provides you with the sources of KMyMoney. Using those, it is your job to convert them into a running program. I doubt that this is what you are looking for. In case I am mistaken, please let me know.
Unfortunately, I cannot tell you where to find an installable program for your distro. Hope some others can jump in.

Hi ipwizard - thanks for your help. Based on your explanation, your assumption is not mistaken. I'll just continue waiting for the PPA to be updated [hello Claydoh].

Hmmmm, puzzling. I just found that Clay Weber's PPA [https://launchpad.net/~claydoh/+archive/ubuntu/kmymoney2-kde4?field.series_filter=] DOES already contain KMM 4.8.0. I've confirmed that my Linux Mint 17.3 KDE 4.14 DOES already [still] contain the correct PPA in Update Manager's Software Sources. Yet despite these factors, running Synaptic & searching for KMyMoney still only finds 4.7.2 [my current version already installed]. Why isn't it picking up 4.8.0?
I see in Clay's PPA that 4.8.0 is listed as "4.8.0-1ubuntu1~xenial4", whereas filtering for Trusty [ie, Ubuntu 14.04, = Mint] shows "4.7.2-0ubuntu1~ubuntu14.04~ppa2". Does this imply possibly that 4.8.0 is not compatible with / available for 14.04? ....................................................................................... As an experiment i added the PPA to my Kubuntu 16.04 VB VM, & found then that i could download & install KMM 4.8.0. Does this mean my previous suspicion is correct; ie, is 4.8.0 incompatible with (K)Ubuntu 14.04 / Mint 17.3 ?

Still no 4.8.0 in Mint 17.3 KDE4 [U14.04] Package Manager from the PPA, but i've now also successfully used the PPA to install 4.8.0 into Mint 18 Xfce+Compiz [U16.04], to which i recently migrated my Lappy from Mint 17.3 KDE4. My Tower for now still has Mint 17.3 KDE4, but i've already decided to soon'ish migrate it to either also Mint 18 Xfce+Compiz, or Mint 18 KDE/Plasma5, or maybe a non-Mint Plasma5 distro tbc.
Hence, despite the overwhelming responses to my post, i'll now close it, under the assumption that my previous assumption was likely correct, ie, 4.8.0 is incompatible with pre-16.04 *buntus, thus not available to them via PPA. |

I haven't been able to solve dependency problems for 14.04. There are some that are not up to date enough in *buntu 14.04, and I haven't been able to (re)build all of them for this, and as I work two jobs, digging in has been low on my to-do list, unfortunately

Thanks heaps for replying. In a perverse-logic way i'm "pleased" that my deduction proved more or less correct. Had i no plans to move up from my 17.x/14.04 base, the lack of KMM upgrade path for me would have been disappointing, but as i'd indicated last post, one pc is now already at 18.x/16.04, & the other will be sooner or later once i can decide which distro i want [spoiled for choice!]. As my whiny annoying tone of last post might have obscured it, i'd like to express now unambiguously my gratitude to you for all your background work in your rare spare time, to support the community including with your PPA.

Hello,
I just moved to Manjaro because of the compatibility issues between KMM 4.x (KDE 4.x) and Ubuntu 16.04 and it's derivatives. I was quite happy to see that Manjaro 16.08 KDE came with KMM 4.8 out of the box and has no issues. NOTE: I was using LinuxMint 17.3 KDE prior to moving to Manjaro 16.08 KDE. Give that a try in a VM if you can. Good luck... |

Hello jeromea , thanks for writing. I tried Manjaro a couple of years ago but didn't really like it [just little things here & there, no really big problem as far as i recall. I think one thing that i always struggled with was having to forget about Synaptic & apt, & having to learn/cope with Octopi & yaourt]. I find it interesting that you also came from the Mint 17.3 KDE base; doubtless you've made a better transition than i did. BTW i have many VMs so i can learn about different Linux distros & DEs, & in fact for a little while now had been thinking that maybe i should try a current Manjaro KDE to see what changes had occurred.
Sorry but i don't properly understand other parts of your post. The "compatibility issues" between KMM & KDE4 is limited explicitly to KMM 4.8.0 [afaik]; my KMM 4.7.2 runs nicely in KDE 4.14.2. Conversely KMM 4.8.0 installs & runs just fine in Ubuntu 16.04-derived Mint 18 KDE, Mint 18 Xfce, Kubuntu 16.04, & actually also Maui Linux [at least, based on my experience]. Given one of my PCs is now already [v recently] upgraded to 18, & my primary [Tower] pc will also depart from 17.3 KDE4 soonish, i realised/decided there's no point in me continuing to push a barrow to get KMM 4.8.0 made available for 14.04 spins. ........................................................................................................... Tower's SSD OS = Linux Mint x64 17.3 KDE 4.14.2... for now... Lappy's SSD OS = Linux Mint x64 18 Xfce+Compiz [> 18/9/16] |
