Can I categorize an account as Income, Expense, or Equity?

The KmyMoney handbook says “There are four different account categories: Asset, Liability, Income, and Expense. Typical asset accounts include bank accounts, cash, and investments, while typical liability accounts include credit cards and loans.”

But when I create a new account, “Account Type” comes with “Checking” as a default, and offers as other choices: Liability, Asset, Investment, Loan, Cash, Credit Card, and Savings.

I can if necessary push my Income Accounts into "Assets" and my Expense Accounts into "Liabilities", but is this necessary, or am I just missing something obvious?

Secondly, In Configure-KmyMoney>Filter there is an option to view Equity accounts, but I do not see how to flag an account as Equity. Again, am I missing something obvious? Okay, maybe I was: after I toggle the option to view Equity accounts, "Equity" appears as an option in the "New Accounts" dialogue. Unfortunately, when I attempt to create an equity account, the Opening Balance field is greyed-out—is there a way past this?

Thanks
