In my previous, DOS-based money software, there was this extremely useful budget report, showing expenses and income for the current month and year-to-date. I can get a monthly report with year totals but this shows every month rather than the current month and annual totals rather proportional year-to-date. I can generate this result by exporting to CSV and editing in Excel.

Is there a way to have KMyMoney present this as a report?

Unfortunately, no (not yet). Please feel free to drop a feature request (wish list item) in our tracker, so that we don't forget about it. This is certainly a report used in the business context.
