Only pdf list of transactions available from my UK Marks & Spencer credit card account. To get these transactions into Kmymoney, this is what I do:

1. Copy transactions from PDF and paste into Libre calc. Once the transactions are in Libre calc, I use the opportunity to generally tidy-up the data (i.e. format, arrange columns, headings and content to suit)
2. when ready, save as CVS (utf-8)
3. Open Kmymoney >file>import>cvs > ‘Banking’ > ‘select’ and navigate to saved cvs file and click to open.
4. Click through and chose desired set-up options and when ready click on ‘Import CSV’
5. Credit card account does not appear in the ‘Account selection’ dialogue, it would be nice if it did but it doesn’t.
6. My current workaround is to create a new temporary account for my imports. I then move these transactions from the temporary account to where I want them to be.

The temporary account (now empty of transactions) is then deleted.
I repeat the above procedure every month which feels like a lot of effort for transaction imports. I’m just writing to ask if there is an easier way of doing this given the limitations of my source data?

Hi!

I think this forum is a bit slow answering users question and Im afraid of lack of support for this great software. Im using KMM in Win10 without problems til now. I did a couple of questions here but without an answer yet.

Have you already tried to convert your credit card statement from pdf to ofx? Ofx can easily be imported to your credit cards account.

Cheers,

Hi,
I've failed to find anything on google to make this process easier on Ubuntu, so guess I'll need to await new releases of KMyMoney for a possible fix.

I agree, we are (sometimes) slow in answering this forum. If you need faster answers: contact us on "The KMyMoney user mailing list" at kmymoney@kde.org.

Some notes to the previous posts in this thread: Converting from PDF to OFX is a bad idea. OFX is complex and requires more information to be valid than that what is provided in the PDF. So I would not want to go that route.

Using pdf2text might be a start of a solution. If possible, it converts the contents of your bank's information to text only. Using some Perl/Python/whatever script can then convert the contents to CSV and spit it out in UTF-8 format directly the way you need it to import to KMyMoney. Of course, this does not solve the missing credit card account in selector problem. That has already been addressed for the next release of KMyMoney (see the bug report for details).
