Check the Preferred Account check box in the account edit dialog. See manual for the dialog.

I found the 'Preferred Account' works only if the account type is 'Current'. I have a single Current and 3 Savings Accounts. To import a QIF file into the Savings Accounts. I first have to change the account types to Current, then they can be seen in Favourites to allow importing of files. I am currently using version 4.8.0 in 'Manjaro'. If there is a way to import into a none 'Current' type accounts it eludes me.
I am sure back in some previous version this was never an issue and it use to work.
