Can't Delete

Thu Nov 23, 2017 12:09 am
I have 3 investments that have been rolled over or transferred to other investments. I have set up the new investments in Kmymoney and transferred the shares to the new investments. The old investments show 0 balance, but I can't delete them. The delete choice is greyed out in the investment options menu. Is there a way around this?

You have to go to the account that you are referring to then click the investment tab. You will see the stocks/funds associated with the account. Delete these stocks/funds (click on a stock/fund and then right click>delete) then you'll be able to delete the account after you delete all the stocks/funds associated with the account.

Do you really want to delete the account? You might want to just hide it so you don't see it. The transactions associated with the account will throw off the rest of database.

I don't want to delete the entire account, it's a tax sheltered annuity with ten funds in it. I want to delete 3 of the funds from the account, but the delete option is greyed out under both accounts and investments.

There are transactions associated with these investments. You can't delete the investment until there aren't any transactions associated with the account. If you delete them then you can then delete the investment.

Thanks that worked. For a future release though, I might suggest a delete option that also deletes the transactions, with a warning pop up that the transactions will be deleted. I have about a hundred more transactions to delete to get rid of all three investments!

Today I noticed my checkbook balance was almost $600 less than what my bank shows and after hours of comparing the two line for line back to July 2014 I was still confused. Besides, I balance the checkbook every month and it's been balancing fine.

Then I remembered... I had deleted all transactions from the 3 closed investment accounts. I had a backup copy of the *.kmy file from before I did the deleting and it agreed with my bank. Apparently sometime before 2014 there was a transfer(s) from those accounts to my checking account I had forgotten about. I could go back further in the register but it was easier to just enter the difference as a miscellaneous adjusted balance. So if you delete any old account transactions be careful!
