Kubuntu 16.04.4 LTS
KMM 4.6.6 KDE 4.14.16 I have been using KMM for quite a few years now and find it is a really good tool for managing finances. I only use it for managing several accounts, income, expenses, sched. trans, etc. For budgetting (mostly cash flow) purposes I have been using OpenOffice speadsheet for a very long time. It's getting more and more complex with virtual sub accounts, additional sheets every now and then, fixed amounts, periods, etc. It does "work" but the main issues now are that to examine the cash flow in any single account, I have to keep cutting rows where transactions have been paid and paste them at the end of that sheet. Change the dates and hopefully get a fairly good view of the cash flow for each account. It's getting more and more complex as time goes on. The solution ? Had thought about writing my own software in php or python maybe ? I did have a brief look at KMM budget features, but it didn't seem anywhere near as comprehensive as my budget needs are. How comprehensive are the budget features in KMM ? Is it simply a case of I'm not using a 'recent' version of KMM, and the newest version of KMM is much more extensive in budget features and use ?

Can KMM do this ? If I set the budgets in KMM, and then use the Forecasting features, will I be able to have a 'view' like that shown at https://ibb.co/fshwdJ
Within each account is an accounting period (4 weeks), and then use the income and expected expenses to be able to view the cash flow. I realise a report may be able to be created that does very similar, but I don't want a report. I need a view, like transactions are seen in KMM now, within each account.

After looking at the budget/forecasting within KMM , I don't think it is going to suit my budgetting needs.
Is the following do-able and is it safe and secure, in terms of data integrity... ?? 1. Create a MYSql version of the KMM data. 2. Add some additional tables as required for budgetting purposes. 3. Use SQL 'views' to display the required information. Most of the information I need for the budgetting is already in KMM, so am trying to focus on using that as the source. I realise I will have to reload the MySQL db everytime updates are needed. Are there any problems/issues with the SQL db side of KMM that will hinder this, or any 'got-chas' ?

Considering I'm using KMM 4.6.6 , do the later versions of KMyMoney have any of the features I need ?

Can the KMM forecasting feature replace the spreadsheet ?

KMyMoney budgeting feature will probably not help here as the detail is not as fine grained as you want it. I would go and create scheduled transaction for all those income and expense transactions. Then you simply increase the preview period in the ledger (see KMyMoney manual for the exact description) and should see the information you want at a glance.

Or you could use crystal reports with a connection to your kmm mysql db

Okay thanks, hopefully I'll check that out.
There doesn't seem to be a free crystal reports for Linux is there ?
