Correct Way to Model an Employer

Thu Jun 14, 2018 8:54 am
This sounds like such a silly question (and I have read the manual - honest) but how do I model an employer in KMyMoney? When I go to New Account, none of the types seems right to me for an employer.

The types I have displayed are Liability, Asset, Investment, Loan, Cash, Credit Card, Savings and Checking.

I probably shouldn't have used the word 'model'. I'm not after anything fancy. I do freelance work for a company, invoice them then get paid. I'm simply not sure how to enter this in KyMyMoney. I've read the help but none of the example seems to cover this common scenario (though there is every chance I am missing something simple).

hi

I think the best place to "model" an employer is in the "Payee" view

enter them on this page and when you will have transaction in your account, you will be able to create a relation between them and the transaction

That's how I do it.

I have an "Invoices" account, in which I track invoices using standard debits/transfers with the employer as the Category. You can see some basic stuff like the balance per employer and can (manually) check the payables ages. I generate the invoices themselves using a different program.
