Trying to set up KMyMoney 5.0 on Linux Mint 19 with 16 GB of memory. So far I have set up or tried to set up 10 asset accounts. When I go thru the setup wizard and finally click on the finish button, apparently at random, KMyMoney has shut down four times and I have to start that account over. Any ideas? Need more info?

This does not sound good. First of all, it is interesting, which version of KMyMoney you really use. The version number consists of three parts but you only mentioned 2 of them. The current version is 5.0.4 and you can easily give it a try by using the AppImage version of it on your system. Please consult the internet on information how to execute an AppImage. Would be cool to know if the problem has already been fixed in the meantime. Should it still fail, please get back to us and we will provide the steps to gain more info about the problem.

I have v5.0.0 which I got from the Mint repository. I have no idea what an Appimage is or what to do with it. Looks a lot like I need to be a programmer. Way over my head.

No, there are only three steps involved:

1. Download the AppImage file
2. Make it executable
3. Execute it

A more complete description can be found in many places on the internet e.g. here. I am pretty sure a user can do that without any need of a developer's background.

Does it matter where I download the Applimage file to execute it?

No. Any directory will do. In case it is not in the search path, you need to prepend ./ to the filename or use the absolute path to the file to start it.

I have 5.0.4 running and I have entered several accounts without the program shutting down. I have also entered some categories and transactions. The next question is how do you back date a transaction? I looked in the documentation (which is apparently not searchable) and didn't find anything.

Also, in 5.0.0 the transaction date was relatively easy to set. But now in 5.0.4 it is a total and complete mess. Please put back the arrows that allow you to change months forward and back. Nobody knows what week number they need.

I don't see the problem with the date change. This works as before. I just verified that against the AppImage. Put the cursor into the section of the month and use the up and down arrow. Works like it should here.

I see that now. They just look different. In 5.0.0 The button looks like a calendar. In 5.0.4 the button doesn't look like a calendar, it looks like background.
Any idea on how to back date? I'm trying to start KMyMoney as of June 1 and I have some transactions left from May.

Adjust the opening date of the account and the opening balance to the day before the first transaction you want to track. Then enter the transactions that follow. Or is it that I don't understand your question?

That would cover my specific instance, but what if during reconciliation I discover I missed an entry and have to back date? It just seems like an unnecessary restriction.

As this can only happen during the first reconciliation ever I don't see this as a massive restriction. On the other hand, it helps to keep your data consistent. Or am I missing something here? In this case, please provide a concrete example (best with some real dates).
