Import .qif into the Asset accounts

Fri Oct 04, 2019 10:01 am
I am trying to move my MS Money current account into KMyMoney.
But when I import the .qif file it always places it into the Liability accounts instead of putting it to the Asset account.

Please help

Inside the QIF file there must be a line starting with !Type:. Can you drop that full line here? Oh, and most important: which version of KMyMoney are you using?

Do you see any of your expected transactions after that !Type:Cat line? I am asking, because !Type:Cat is the lead in for categories. Are there any other such Type lines following? What are they? So we are looking for the !Type:??? line just before your transactions start.

The version you are using is based on the dev branch (master) and about a month old. You should update to a newer one.

I have found another !Type:

!Type:CCard
D01/08/07
T-22.34
POpening balance
CX
L[Current Account]
^

No more !Type: in the file after the !Type:CCard above

That looks like your opening balance transaction of the account named 'Current Account' but why does it show Type credit card? This would certainly explain why it creates it as a liability account during import. Here's what you do next:
  • Make a backup of your QIF file, use that backup file from now on
  • Change the !Type:CCard into !Type:Bank using a text editor
  • Import the changed file which should result in a checkings account under assets
Hope that helps.
