Installed version 5.0.6 yesterday on a windows 10 machine. I've noticed that each entry/edit session is generating a xyz.kmy.~# where # is incremented for each session. As an experiment, I removed the .kmy.~3 file and the program and data were functionally intact. Is there a setting to have KMM remove on close/exit?

I did a bit more digging on the Settings page. The ~# files are backup files created during the save process. By default KMM will keep 10 backups, but this is easily changed on the Settings page.
