The Dividend Reinvest transaction appears to work with no problem, but I can't figure out how to enter a Dividend received transaction.
As soon as I select 'Dividend' as the Activity type, any ability to enter a dollar amount disappears - I only have entry boxes for Fees and Interest. So how do I enter a Dividend transaction? (I'm a relatively new user, so I won't be surprised if the problem is due to user error!) Thanks for any guidance anyone can provide. |

You would enter it as interest and select the category for dividends if you have any or interest in general. Select the account where you receive the dividend.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for that - using that workaround I was able to enter the dividend transaction.
Now, might I impose on you further for assistance in recording the dividend reinvest? Although the screen allows me to enter the Shares and Total Price, the Enter button remains greyed out, and I cannot complete the transaction. (I've entered the Security, and also the categories for Fees and Interest, although in this transaction there are none.) Is there another trick to record this side of the transaction? Thanks for your help - I appreciate your time. |

Again you need to assign a category. After all, it is income that is reinvested. Use the interest again.

Thanks again for your help, but not sure what category to use. When I select "Reinvest Dividend" as the activity, no matter what category I choose for the Fees and Interest categories, I still am unable to enter the transaction. I'm using an expense of "Investment Fees, and an income category of Dividend or Investment Interest Income (I've tried both of these).
I can enter the number of shares and the total transaction amount, but the Enter button remains greyed out no matter which categories I use, and there is no entry field for either the amount of Fees or Interest. In most other financial packages, tracking dividends and reinvested dividends is pretty straightforward, so I'm struggling with why that doesn't appear to be the case the KMyMoney. The official documentation for KMyMoney doesn't go into specific detail on the Dividend/Reinvest transactions - are you aware of some other online resource that might cover these more thoroughly that I could spend some time with? (I have a finance background, so I don't need a tutorial on how dividends are earned and reinvested, but just specifically how to enter them in KMyMoney.) Thank you - again, I really appreciate your time. |

One question at this point: which version of KMyMoney are you using? Could be that a problem in that area has already been corrected.

Please try a newer version (current stable is 5.0.7). I think this problem has already been fixed. Being on Linux, you can try an AppImage version if your distro does not provide a newer version..

Thanks - I did the upgrade to 5.0.7, but still see the same behavior.
Here's what I've entered: Activity- Dividend Reinvest Security- Vanguard 500 Index Fund Fees- Bank Charges: Investment Fees Interest- Investment Income: Interest Date- 09/25/19 Shares- 1.413 Transaction amount: 389.14 The Enter button remains greyed out, and there is no field for entering Fees or Interest (which is fine, because there were none associated with this transaction). Is there something else I'm doing wrong? Thanks for any additional wisdom you may have. |

Press the split edit button right to the fees combo box which allows to enter amounts. This might not be working correctly, but I am not an expert on these transaction types. Please check for yourself.

reinvestment works fine here.
I have Activity:Reinvest dividend security:HSBC Holdings. Interests: dividend income date: <date> shares: <amont of received shares> Price/share: <unit price> interest: received shares x price/share. |
